Bratz x Revolution Makeup: A Lookin' Bratz Review

Hey Angelz!

I have an exciting review to share with y’all!!! Revolution Beauty was kind enough to send me the ENTIRE Bratz x Revolution Makeup line (sans mascara) ahead of their launch, which I am going to share with you today! Keep on reading to see tons of pictures of the new makeup, including swatches of all the products. Plus, get all the details on the release date and time, where you can buy the collection, whether or not the products are cruelty-free and/or vegan, pricing, and more.

Before we get into this review, I would like to state that this will be less of a review of how the products work on the face and more of an overview of everything as I have not had enough time to fully test it all out. I am also not the most skilled at swatching makeup and taking pictures of it, so please understand if some of the photos are not the best. All swatches were done on the back of my arm, which I washed off in between swatch sets. The eyeshadows were dipped into with a clean finger twice and swiped across the arm. I did my best to provide as many details about this collection as I could. I hope y’all enjoy!

EYESHADOW PALETTES

There are a total of five eyeshadow palettes in the Bratz x Revolution Makeup collection, including one 27-pan palette and four 18-pan palettes that represent each of the core four Bratz girls. The 27-pan palette features the shades “Fashion Pack”, “Cloe”, “Sasha”, “Jade”, “Yasmin”, “Diamondz”, “Oh, You Boyz!”, “Passion”, “Fashion”, “Funky”, “Feelin’ Pretty”, “Tweevils”, “Super Stylin’”, “My Girlz”, “Funkalish”, “All Together”, “Convertible”, “Doll”, “Shopping Spree”, “Stilesville”, “Midnight Dance”, “Magazine”, “Rock Angelz”, and “Pretty ‘N’ Punk”. In the center of the palette are three larger eyeshadows, which are named “Accessorize”, “Halo”, and “Bratitude”. This was the first palette that was revealed earlier this month, which quickly gained a lot of criticism due to the seemingly whitewashed artwork of Sasha and Yasmin and the “cheap” look of the palette. Looking at the palette in person, I am quite impressed with how it looks. The unicarton packaging (cardboard box used to house the makeup product) is the same as the actual palette’s packaging in terms of design, but the palette itself is made of metal and is very sturdy, thick, and heavy. Sasha and Yasmin’s artwork skintones definitely look more true to their dolls’ skintones, which was expected after it was confirmed that the lighting of the promotional pictures used by Revolution Beauty altered the artwork colors. As for the shades in the palette, I am not disappointed! Many fans questioned the colors and the color story of the palette, but I do not mind any of it. I am sure there could have been better shades and improved arrangement of them in the palette, but I am not that picky when it comes to makeup. The swatches of the shadows are hit-or-miss, which is the case with all four palettes. You can see all the swatches in the gallery (sidenote: I forgot to swatch the shade “Accessorize” from the palette in the original photos, which is why it has a separate photo that I took later).

I adore the big palette, but I was far more excited for the individual character palettes! Each character palette comes in a trapezoid-shaped box reminiscent of the actual doll boxes. The unicarton packaging is designed to look like the outside cardboard piece of the Bratz doll boxes, with a window for the artwork to create the illusion of a doll being housed in a doll box. The cover of each palette includes First Edition artwork of each character against a backdrop pattern of their icons.

Cloe’s eyeshadow pans are named: “Monologue”, “Drama Mama”, “Crush”, “Glitz”, “Angel”, “Half-Pipe”, “XPress It”, “Sleepover”, “Flaunt It”, “Spaced Out”, “Advice”, “Class President”, “Biker Babe”, “Pillow Fight”, “Prince Charming”, “Ethereal”, “Feathers”, and “Overreact”.

Jade’s eyeshadow pans are named: “Platforms”, “Trendsetter”, “Fashion Sense”, “Get Noticed”, “Like My Outfit”, “Kool Kat”, Self Expression”, “Pouty”, “Runway Walk”, “My Cat Mica”, “Lookin’ Good”, “Mini Skirt”, “Mannequin”, “Carnaby Street”, “Safety Pin”, “Stop and Stare”, “Prom Queen”, and “Coolness”.

Sasha’s eyeshadow pans are named: “Mixtape”, “Got Your Back”, “Scorchin’”, “VIP”, “Strike A Pose”, “Beanie”, “Hop To It”, “Choreography”, “Bunny Boo”, “Smoothie Bar”, “Latest Hits”, “Camo”, “Don’t Freak”, “Vibe Check”, “In Charge”, “Name In Lights”, “Groovalicious”, and “Centre Stage”.

Yasmin’s eyeshadow pans are named: “Frog”, “Feel It”, “Change The World”, “Poet”, “School Paper”, “Mystery”, “Guac”, “Ozzy”, “Glammed Up”, “Pretty Princess”, “Beauty Mark”, “I Rule”, “Coffee Date”, “Zen”, “Composition”, “Inner Peace”, “Crown”, and “Flaunt It”.

Each character palette has 14 regular circle-shaped pans and 4 larger oval-shaped pans; they are not all meant for the eyes though! The shadows that are not meant for the eyes are pressed pigments and are listed on the back of each palette with a diagram that shows which shadows cannot be used on the eyes. These pressed pigments are technically not meant for the eyes, but that is only because pressed pigments (in general, not just for these specific products) are not FDA approved for eye use. I am also sure all of the shimmers can be used on the face as highlight if desired. The pans are protected by a plastic sheet featuring the character icons, which is one of my favorite details from these palettes.

As for the quality of the eyeshadows, I cannot say I am disappointed nor am I thrilled. Some shadows are very pigmented while others barely show up on my skin or did not swipe well across my arm, which you can see in the swatch photos in the gallery (more specifically with Cloe’s palette). It is important to take into account that I have not used these shadows on my face yet, so I do not know how they perform when used with proper makeup tools. Application method is important when using makeup, so finger swatches are not always accurate in showing how a shadow performs. Aside from that, I do love the colors themselves and the shade names. Not many people are enjoying the shade names, but I do love the apparent and not-so-apparent Bratz references used. One minor quip I have with the palettes is that Cloe and Yasmin both have a shade named “Flaunt It”, neither of which are the same.

ADDITIONAL EYE PRODUCTS

Alongside the eyeshadows are the eye pencils, eyeliner, and mascara. Unfortunately, Revolution did not send me the mascara but I did try out and swatch the eyeliners! Both products come in standard packaging using the Bratz x Revolution color scheme and star accents. The single eyeliner is a black liquid liner with a felt-tip application, which I absolutely loved! I am not sure if this line needed the liquid liner as it seems like a standard black eyeliner with Bratz packaging, but I did like the way it looked when applied. I even created something cute with it, which I may share on my social media accounts (@lookinbratz) soon! The eye pencils come in four different colors to represent each of the core girls: purple for Yasmin, blue for Cloe, orange for Sasha, and pink for Jade; the eye pencils are only sold as a set and not individually. The eye pencils drew on very smoothly and the color was opaque. Overall, I am impressed with these eye products!

LIP PRODUCTS

The Bratz x Revolution Makeup collection comes with some lip products, such as the maxi plump lipglosses, lip crayons, and a lip care duo set with a lip exfoliator and lip mask.

The maxi plump lipglosses and lip crayons come in unicarton packaging featuring the characters’ names on the front in the iconic Dollhouse font (except for the clear gloss, which features a “B” motif instead), with the top of each box showcasing each character symbol (and a pair of lips for the clear gloss) against the shade color. The lipgloss and lip crayon tubes have tops that features holographic patterns of the character symbols. The holographic symbols are some of the cutest design details from this collection! The shades of both the glosses and crayons are nicely pigmented and the glosses apply easily, which is great for people who are not into sticky glosses. I would personally recommend using the lip crayon as a base and going over it with the corresponding characters’ lipgloss for a glossy and full Bratz-esque pout! The lipglosses are also huge compared to standard lip glosses on the market, so you are getting your money’s worth for sure!

Another note about the lipglosses is that, while they are plumping, they are not as intense as other plumping glosses on the market. They are slightly tingly and have a minty taste, but there was no dramatic before and after in how my lips looked which I am fine with. This may not be the case for everyone as some people could react differently depending on skin type, allergies, and other factors.

Something I would like to address is the assumption that the lipglosses have strands of hair on the applicators, a rumor that began when Revolution posted an Instagram Reel the other day where there appeared to be hair in the lipgloss tube. I can confirm that this is not true! What appears to be a strand of hair is actually a drizzle of gloss. I opened my glosses to see the exact same thing as what was shown in the video, but it turned out to be lipgloss drizzle and not strands of hair.

Along with the glosses and crayons is the lip care duo set, which is definitely a favorite of mine! I used the lip exfoliator before I went to bed last night and applied the lip mask and woke up with super-soft lips. Both the exfoliator and mask have a vanilla flavor to it, and the exfoliator has a fine grit to it. They are both encased in cute pots with twist-tops that feature holographic “B” emblems. Not only will you have gorgeous lips after using it, but the pots will look great in your bathroom or wherever you store your lip care products!

OTHER PRODUCTS

The final products from the Bratz x Revolution Makeup collection are the brush set and makeup bag. The brush set, which has trapezoid-shaped window packaging, comes with 4 brushes: an angled face brush, fluffy powder brush, eye blending brush, and angled eye brush. I did not use the brushes, but they felt nice and soft! I would say they are comparable to other brushes on the market that are similar in price range. I would rather keep them as collector pieces in the meantime. The brush set comes with a small bag with a zipper pull with a “B” emblem. There is also a separate, larger makeup bag available with the same zipper pull.

CRUELTY-FREE AND/OR VEGAN?

Yes! The Bratz x Revolution Makeup collection is completely cruelty-free and almost completely vegan! The only products in the collection that are cruelty-free but not vegan are the 18-pan character eyeshadow palettes.

OVERALL THOUGHTZ

Overall, I am satisfied with the entire Bratz x Revolution Makeup collection! Some of the items are hit-or-miss, but I feel like there was a lot of attention and detail paid to nearly every product. I appreciate all the references to Bratz that span over the course of twenty years, all of which are memorialized in a collection of products of one of the things that the girlz are best known for: makeup! With the popularity of the Bratz Challenge that started back in 2017 and is still going strong thanks to Bratz content creators and makeup moguls on Instagram, a Bratz makeup line aimed towards adult collectors and makeup lovers in general is long overdue. The quality issues are forgivable for me because I do not see these products as being meant to replace your everyday beauty products. There is no doubt you can use these products everyday if you so desire, but I view them as collectors products. For me, this is a makeup collection that encapsulates the special aspects of the Bratz brand; that doesn’t mean I won’t use the products every once in a while though! Revolution is also an affordable makeup brand, so that is something else to take into account.

If you didn’t know yet, Lookin’ Bratz is named after the very first Bratz cosmetics line from 2003. I chose to name the website after the Lookin’ Bratz cosmetics line because I had been searching for old LB products back in 2016 while doing research for the site, which was around the time beauty influencers were lowkey taking over the world. I was really into makeup at the time and wanted one of the LB tins as a collector’s piece because I was/am both a Bratz and makeup collector. Interestingly enough, I bought my first Lookin’ Bratz tin (the “Silver Stardust” eyeshadow from 2003 with the Slumber Party Yasmin artwork on it in a lilac-colored tin) exactly four years ago. It is crazy to think how much I have grown personally in the past four years and how much my platform has grown as well. I had been working on LookinBratz.com since 2015 before launching my Instagram account in late 2016, eventually releasing the website in May 2020. I figured naming it “Lookin’ Bratz” was not only an homage to the classic Bratz makeup line, but also a nod to the reason why people visit this website… because they are lookin’ for Bratz!

I am so grateful for how much love and support everyone has given Lookin’ Bratz, especially over the past year. I never imagined I would ever be featured several times on the Bratz Instagram page or receive PR from MGA or Revolution. A few years ago, I was criticized by someone for “being obsessed with expired Bratz makeup” because of my love for old Bratz makeup. That person may have made a valid point, but I am ecstatic to say that I am now receiving PR for the brand-new Bratz x Revolution Makeup collection years later. And there are so many more exciting things to come for Lookin’ Bratz in the near future…

Thank you so much to Revolution Beauty for sending me this collection! I can’t wait to play around with these products more and take more photos of them. Check out Lookin’ Bratz on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for updates on the Bratz x Revolution Beauty makeup collection and more photos to come!

xoxo
